About Us

We are Fly Doncaster Ltd, a newly formed operating company set up to mobilise, reopen and manage the running of Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Established by the City of Doncaster Council, we are committed to establishing a top-class regional airport and maximising its potential to bring economic growth to the region.

The Airport

Doncaster Sheffield operated as a commercial airport between 2005 and 2022. Today this means the site already boasts an established terminal, several hangars and top-class facilities. Having this infrastructure in place, alongside an excellent proximity to transport links, makes it the ideal location for both passenger and commercial flights.

Airport City

More than just an airport; Doncaster Sheffield Airport are delivering a major regeneration project, developing an aviation community that will drive economic growth across the area and the North of England.

Airport submits planning application for approach lights

A planning application has been submitted to re-install approach lighting to the North of Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s runway. The application seeks to re-install the infrastructure in the same configuration that was previously in place before the airport closed in 2022 and represents the latest step in preparing the site for operational readiness.

While the location of the lights will remain the same as before, the latest technology will be used to ensure the resilience of the infrastructure.

Simon Hinchley, Executive Director – Airport Operations at Doncaster Sheffield Airport said: “Reinstalling approach lighting is another important step towards the operational readiness of this airport. Approach lighting has been in place at this location for at least 40 years, previously in its guise as RAF Finningley and latterly to support air movements at Doncaster Sheffield Airport from 2005 to 2022.

“The approach lights represent an important further step in the reopening of this airport and we’re pleased to have been working with our expert consultant team to ensure all aspects of aircraft infrastructure are in place. In the coming months we will also be carrying out work on the runway lights themselves, to ensure we are in a good position to welcome flights back and manage the airfield in a safe and responsible manner, conforming to all regulatory guidance.”

Doncaster Sheffield Airport is currently in the middle of an accelerated reopening timeline, which has included an Airspace Change Proposal, that was out to public consultation between August and October.
