About Us

We are Fly Doncaster Ltd, a newly formed operating company set up to mobilise, reopen and manage the running of Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Established by the City of Doncaster Council, we are committed to establishing a top-class regional airport and maximising its potential to bring economic growth to the region.

The Airport

Doncaster Sheffield operated as a commercial airport between 2005 and 2022. Today this means the site already boasts an established terminal, several hangars and top-class facilities. Having this infrastructure in place, alongside an excellent proximity to transport links, makes it the ideal location for both passenger and commercial flights.

Airport City

More than just an airport; Doncaster Sheffield Airport are delivering a major regeneration project, developing an aviation community that will drive economic growth across the area and the North of England.

Doncaster Sheffield Airport has launched its search for on-site airport operational partners as plans to re-open the airport progress.

The airport has now launched its call for a Fixed Base Operator (FBO). This invites aviation-focussed businesses to put forward bids for a permanent presence at the airport to carry out operational functions for general aviation (e.g. private jets, medical aircraft and private pilots).

The FBO will form a key component of Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s operating model, working alongside the airport operator to ensure safe, efficient and compliant day‑to‑day operations. As the airport prepares for reopening, it is establishing a modern, scalable operational structure which integrates airfield management, terminal operations, security and ground services with experienced specialist partners.

FBO services encompass the full range of support required for business and private aviation, including aircraft handling, fuelling, and parking, alongside high-quality passenger and crew facilities. These services typically provide dedicated support, as well as assistance on operational issues and capabilities such as ground handling. FBOs may also offer hangarage, maintenance coordination, and landside services such as transport and catering.

FlyDoncaster, which operates Doncaster Sheffield Airport, will undertake a procurement process which is expected to conclude in May. The chosen FBO will help contribute to the huge positive economic impact for the region; bringing jobs and attracting further investment.

Christian Foster, Director at FlyDoncaster, said: “We’re delighted to take this next step in the journey towards opening Doncaster Sheffield Airport. Our team is committed to delivering a seamless, efficient and premium experience for both passengers and operators, and the partners we work with are vital to the airport’s future success.

“The selected FBO will benefit from the strong infrastructure already in place at Doncaster Sheffield Airport, while playing an important role in re‑establishing the airport as a centre for high‑quality aviation services.”

Simon Hinchley, Executive Director for Airport Operations at FlyDoncaster, added: "As we work towards re-opening Doncaster Sheffield Airport, our focus is firmly on building a safe, efficient and operationally robust airport that is ready to serve a broad range of users from day one.

“The Fixed Base Operator will be a critical part of our operational ecosystem - supporting daily airfield activity, maintaining high service standards and helping us deliver a professional and well‑managed operating environment. We are looking for a partner who shares our commitment to operational excellence and who can grow with the airport as activity increases.”

Aviation businesses seeking to submit a proposal to the FBO process need to do so by the end of April. Backed by City of Doncaster Council and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, Doncaster Sheffield Airport is expected to generate £5bn for the regional economy by 2050.
